Future Kitchen Planning:
Gas Proving is only a requirement of B.S. 6173 when old equipment is installed into a new scheme. The kitchen must now be fitted with an electro-magnetic gas valve or solenoid valve. The standard asks for an automatic system to check that there is no gas leakage (or gas flow due to devices being left on) before the gas solenoid can be switched on.
Gas Interlocking is also a requirement of B.S. 6173 and eventually will be a requirement for all kitchens. (Read More>)
Existing Kitchen Upgrades. (Prior to 2001)
Upgrading existing kitchens with an interlocking system while not carrying out major works will also require a solenoid valve to be fitted. Some form of safety check is therefore required to ensure the gas cannot be switched back on…
1) automatically in the event of a power failure, or
